    Regional transmission and distribution challenges has evolved and changed a lot in recent years. Four contradictory influences increasingly affected the operations of Slovenian and Croatian electricity systems. Regional electricity systems experienced increasing support of RES integration to meet the EU targets, a lower electricity consumption due to the economic crisis, a growing lack of centralized electricity production for electric system support and the high interconnectivity between the neighboring control zones. TSOs and DSOs observed growing network overvoltage issues as well as a decrease in secondary reserve capacities. Such situation starts to impact national and regional renewable integration targets affecting the security of supply at European level. SINCRO.GRID joint investment project addressed the above-mentioned issues in a sustainable manner. Such cross-border systemic approach will bring synergetic benefits. It will enable an acceptable level of security of operation for at least the next ten years hosting levels of RES in line with the trends foreseen to reach the 2030 targets safely. The project is going to integrate new active elements in the transmission and distribution grids. It leans on the following main pillars: deployment of six compensation devices, deployment of advanced dynamic thermal rating (DTR) systems, deployment of electricity storage systems, integration of distributed renewable generation (DG) and deployment of a virtual cross-border control center (VCBCC). A key aspect of the SINCRO.GRID project lies in the synergy brought by the simultaneous innovative deployment of a portfolio of mature technology-based solutions bring high benefits and positive externalities for the region and European Union

    Great Inequality of Jupiter and Saturn I: The Planetary Three Body Problem, Heliocentric development by Lagrange multipliers, Perturbation Theory Formulation

    In this paper, we undertake to present a self-contained and thorough analysis of the gravitational three body problem, with anticipated application to the Great Inequality of Jupiter and Saturn. The analysis of the three body Lagrangian is very convenient in heliocentric coordinates with Lagrange multipliers, the coordinates being the vector-sides rāƒ—i,ā€‰i=1,2,3\vec{r}_i,\,i=1,2,3 of the triangle that the bodies form. In two dimensions to begin with, the equations of motion are formulated into a dynamical system for the polar angles Īøi\theta_i, angular momenta ā„“i\ell_i and eccentricity vectors eāƒ—i\vec{e}_i. The dynamical system is simplified considerably by change of variables to certain auxiliary vector fāƒ—i=r^i+eāƒ—i\vec{f}_i=\hat{r}_i+\vec{e}_i. We then begin to formulate the Hamiltonian perturbation theory of the problem, now in three dimensions. We first give the geometric definitions for the Delaunay action-angle variables of the two body problem. We express the three body Hamiltonian in terms of Delaunay variables in each sector i=1,2,3i=1,2,3, revealing that it is a nearly integrable Hamiltonian. We then present the KAM theory perturbative approach that will be followed in future work, including the modification that will be required because the Hamiltonian is degenerate

    Supporting Cells Remove and Replace Sensory Receptor Hair Cells in a Balance Organ of Adult Mice

    Vestibular hair cells in the inner ear encode head movements and mediate the sense of balance. These cells undergo cell death and replacement (turnover) throughout life in non-mammalian vertebrates. However, there is no definitive evidence that this process occurs in mammals. We used fate-mapping and other methods to demonstrate that utricular type II vestibular hair cells undergo turnover in adult mice under normal conditions. We found that supporting cells phagocytose both type I and II hair cells. Plp1-CreER(T2)-expressing supporting cells replace type II hair cells. Type I hair cells are not restored by Plp1-CreER(T2)-expressing supporting cells or by Atoh1-CreER(TM)-expressing type II hair cells. Destruction of hair cells causes supporting cells to generate 6 times as many type II hair cells compared to normal conditions. These findings expand our understanding of sensorineural plasticity in adult vestibular organs and further elucidate the roles that supporting cells serve during homeostasis and after injury

    Dissolution of Cadmium Sulphide at pH = 2 in Aqueous Solutions of Sulphuric Acid and Sulphuric Acid Containing Cadmium Sulphate

    Dissolution of particulate CdS suspended in aqueous solution of H2SO4 (pH = 2) containing 0.00, 0.05 and 0.10 mol m*3 CdSC>4 respectively was followed by measuring cadmium concentration in suspension filtrates. It takes about 150 days for cadmium concentration in solution to become constant. An exponential type relation correlating cadmium concentration with system parameters (initial cadmium concentration in solution, mass transfer coefficient, weight and specific surface area of CdS, solution volume) and the time. All systems aligned with a single, experimentally determined (mean) mass transfer coefficient value of (8.0 Ā± Ā± 1.4) X 10ā€™11 ms-1. Dissolution of CdS was not solute diffusion but probably a surface chemical reaction controlled process

    Esport is a large and still growing industry with vast audiences. Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs), a sub-genre of esports, possess a very complex environment, which often leads to experts missing important coverage while broadcasting live competitions. One common game event that holds significant importance for broadcasting is referred to as a team fight engagement. Professional player's own knowledge and understanding of the game may provide a solution to this problem. This paper suggests a model that predicts and detects ongoing team fights in a live scenario. This approach outlines a novel technique of deriving representations of a complex game environment by relying on player knowledge. This is done by analysing the positions of the in-game characters and their associated cameras, utilising this data to train a neural network. The proposed model is able to both assist in the production of live esport coverage as well as provide a live, expert-derived, analysis of the game without the need of relying on outside sources

    Energy Scenarios for South Eastern Europe: A close look into the Western Balkans

    "The Energy Scenarios for South East Europe" thematic seminar took place on the 15th of December 2015 in Vienna, Austria. The workshop was organized by Institute of Energy and Transport of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC-IET), hosted by the Energy Community Secretariat (ECS) and sponsored by the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG-NEAR) in the framework of the Travel Accommodation and Conference facility for Western Balkans and Turkey, a programme of dissemination activities organised by the Commission in the EU or the beneficiary country in connection with the enlargement process and the pre-accession strategy. The aim of the workshop was to bring together representatives from think tanks, scientific institutes, the academia and the private sector with government officials, the national statistical agencies and the local TSO representatives from the Western Balkan region to exchange views on potential energy technology deployment scenarios that could facilitate a low carbon development pathway for the enlargement countries, but also exchange on the methodologies utilized and identify challenges as well as potential pitfalls in this process. The workshop included three sessions of specific thematic focus. The first session provided the "regional picture" with forecasts on the development of the energy and power systems in the western Balkans. The second session discussed case studies on low carbon development trajectories for specific countries in the region; and the third session explored the role of particular technologies in this context. This report comprises of long abstracts from the workshop presentations and closes with a chapter on conclusions and recommendations that resulted from the discussion sessions

    Tumor deposits in colorectal cancer: improving the value of modern staging - a systematic review and meta-analysis

    PURPOSE: Colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment is largely determined by tumor stage. Despite improvements made in the treatment of various types of metastatic disease, staging has not been refined. The role of tumor deposits (TD) in staging remains under debate. We have assessed the relation of TD with metastatic pattern, to evaluate whether TD might add significant new information to staging. METHODS: We performed a systematic literature search focused on the role of TD in CRC. Studies with neoadjuvant treated patients were excluded. Data on stage, histological factors and outcome were extracted. Data from four large cohorts were analyzed for the relevance of the presence of TD, lymph node metastases (LNM) and extramural vascular invasion (EMVI) on the pattern of metastases and outcomes. RESULTS: Of the 10,106 included CRC patients 22% presented with TD. TD are invariably associated with poor outcome. The presence of TD was associated with the presence of LNM and EMVI. In a pair wise comparison, the effects of TD were stronger than both LNM and EMVI. In the logistic regression model, TD in combination with LNM is the strongest predictor for liver (odds ratio (OR) 5.5), lung (OR 4.3) and peritoneal metastases (OR 7.0). The presence of EMVI adds information for liver and lung metastases, but not for peritoneal metastases. CONCLUSION: We have shown that TD are not equal to LNM or EMVI, with respect to biology and outcome. We lose valuable prognostic information by allocating TD into nodal category N1c and only considering TD in the absence of LNM. Therefore, we propose that the number of TD should be added to the number of LNM to derive a final N stage

    A Radiotracer Study of CadmiumTransport Across the CdS/ Aqueous Solution Interface

    Information on interfacial mass transport of cadmium in cadmium sulfide suspensions and er equilibrium conditions has been obtained by probing with a radiotracer for cadmium. The transport of Cd2+ ions from the cadmium sulfide solid particles to the saturated solution and visa versa is followed by adding radioactive 109Cd2+ to the solution and measuring the amount of radioactivity present in the solution as a function of time. The amount of exchangeable cadmium in or at the solid/liquid interface, which is deduced from the final value of radioactivity in the solution appeared to be 1.8 to 2.3 times the amount of cadmium in one lattice layer. Compartmental analysis of the experimental data revealed that 4 different cadmium species are involved in the exchange processes, one of which being the cadmium in the bulk of the solution, and another one, representing 40% to 50 of one lattice layer, which exchanges rapidly with the solution in comparison with the other two species left

    Assessment of computed tomography simulators used in radiotherapy treatment planning in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina

    The purpose of this work was to evaluate computed tomography simulators used in radio-therapy treatment planning in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. A survey of quality assurance programmes of 24 computed tomography simulators in 16 facilities was conducted. A dedicated CT-to-ED phantom was scanned at 120 kV and 140 kV, to obtain CT-to-ED conversion curves as well as CTDIvol. Thoracal phantoms were scanned in the standard and extended field of view to evaluate the dosimetric effect on treatment planning and delivery. The mean age of the measured scanners was 5.5 years. The mean water HU value was ā€“6.5 (all scanners, all voltages) and air HU value was ā€“997. Extended field of view computed tomography data differ from the standard field of view and differences between conversion curves have significant dosimetric impact. The CTDI data showed a large range of values between centers. Better quality assurance of computed tomography simulators in all countries is recommended. The CT-to-ED curve could be used as default at one voltage and per manufacturer. Extended field of view imaging can be used, but treatment planning should be avoided in the regions out of the standard field of view
